The UK is experiencing a dramatic shift in travel lately. This week, the country’s travel landscape receives impact via major updates via visas, new airline routes, and weather disturbances.
Get UK Visas For Just ₹1
Digital visa platform Atlys reported a 44% surge in UK visa searches from India in July. To meet rising demand, the startup launched a ₹1 (~$0.01) visa processing trial on August 4–5. The pilot includes destinations like the UK, Schengen countries, Singapore, and Thailand.
“Atlys was created to eliminate friction from the visa process,” Atlys founder and CEO Mohak Nahta said. “With the One Way Out Sale, we are taking that mission even further.”
“For the first time, travelers can get visas at a price that feels impossible,” he added. “We want to challenge what people expect from this industry and prove that global travel can be truly within reach.”
Notably, Indian outbound travel is surging. As per CAPA India, the projection is that 50 million Indians will travel overseas annually by 2030. Therefore, Atlys’ pricing test is a strategic move to capture this growing market.
Emirates Expands in Gatwick
Meanwhile, Emirates announced a fourth daily flight between London Gatwick and Dubai, starting February 8, 2026. The new route will be on the Airbus A350-900, featuring Premium Economy and refreshed Business Class cabins.
Currently, Emirates runs 140 weekly flights to the UK. This includes six daily services to Heathrow and three to Manchester. With the addition, London will have 12 daily Emirates flights—nine to Heathrow and three to Gatwick.
Importantly, the move enhances UK-UAE connectivity and offers more flexibility for travelers.
“The new service’s unique timing as the last flight of the day between Dubai and London in both directions caters to customers traveling directly between the two cities,” said an Emirates spokesperson. “For those traveling to Dubai, the service provides the ideal arrival time for customers to check-in to their hotels and get a head start on their Dubai activities.”
Storm Floris Pummels the UK
While visa and flight expansions drive optimism, Storm Floris has caused major disruptions across the UK. On August 4, wind gusts hit 134 mph in Cairn Gorm, Scotland. Consequently, the Met Office has issued amber warnings for wind and rain.
Moreover, operators delayed or canceled thousands of flights and train services. In particular, the storm heavily impacted flights to London, Manchester, and Leeds.
Meanwhile, thousands of properties lost power across northern Britain, while ferry routes from Aberdeen and Oban were also suspended due to rough seas. In addition, roads in parts of Cumbria and Yorkshire were closed due to fallen trees.
As a result, authorities urge travelers to monitor schedules and stay alert for updates. Officials expect conditions to remain unstable through August 6.
Travel Boom Meets Challenges
Overall, UK travel is undergoing major change. From innovative visa pricing and route expansions to extreme weather, travelers face a dynamic landscape.
For now, those heading to or from the UK should check transport updates regularly. Above all, planning ahead remains critical in the face of ongoing uncertainty.
